Vegan Mofo Survey


So, this October is the third annual Vegan Month of Food, or Vegan Mofo. This is the spur that I needed to actually start writing this blog, stop being so daunted by the many other fantabulous vegan food blogs on the interweb and generally kick myself into gear. I don't think I'll be able to post everyday this month, but I'm going to try my darndest!!

Anyway, it seemed a fitting way to start, so Vegan Mofo Survey!!

1. Favorite non-dairy milk?
Unsweetened soya. Has to be unsweetened.

2. What are the top 3 dishes/recipes you are planning to cook?
Tofu 'Omelette' from Vegan Brunch, Cookie Sandwichs from Babycakes NYC cookbook and The Blueberry Fudgy Wudgy Brownies from Veganocomnicon

3. Topping of choice for popcorn?
Cinnamon and lots of sugar

4. Most disastrous recipe/meal failure?
When I was about 8, I tryed to make just crumble, without the fruit. Just a biscuit.

5. Favorite pickled item?
Pickles!

6. How do you organize your recipes?
My cookbooks are on my counter, in order of when I last used them, I have a book where I write recipes (categorised sweet or savoury, sweet is winning by a lot) and a bookmarks folder.

7. Compost, trash, or garbage disposal?
Trash, I'm afraid.

8. If you were stranded on an island and could only bring 3 foods...what would they be (don't worry about how you'll cook them)?
Chocolate Chip cookies from Babycakes NYC, A real baguette, Braeburn apples.

9. Fondest food memory from your childhood?
Eating Spaghetti Bolognese in a restaurant on a pier every night on a family holiday to Portugal

10. Favorite vegan ice cream?
Swedish glace vanilla

11. Most loved kitchen appliance?
My great grandmother's cut glass citrus juicer.

12. Spice/herb you would die without?
Cinnamon!

13. Cookbook you have owned for the longest time?
My 'Stork' Margarine book of Home Cooking. Not very vegan, but great for the simple recipes I always forget, and for imperial/metric conversions.

14. Favorite flavor of jam/jelly?
My mum's homemade blackberry and apple jam.

15. Favorite vegan recipe to serve to an omni friend?
Chocolate tofu cheesecake.

16. Seitan, tofu, or tempeh?
Tofu, just can't get my head around tempeh and seitan.

17. Favorite meal to cook (or time of day to cook)?
Pudding.

18. What is sitting on top of your refrigerator?
dust/my counter.

19. Name 3 items in your freezer without looking.
Cooked plums, green beans, pineapple.

20. What's on your grocery list?
Apples, Bananas, Unsweetened Alpro Soya, Baked Beans, Cat food, Peanut Butter, Bran Flakes, Oats.

21. Favorite grocery store?
I LOVE Wholefoods, but it's a bit of a trip (like, 3,000 miles). In Brighton, I love Taj for spices and veg, Infinity for the vegan chelsea buns and pizza and Tesco for everyday.

22. Name a recipe you'd love to veganize, but haven't yet.
Lemon Meringue Pie, or Banoffee Pie. Too difficult to decide.

23. Food blog you read the most (besides Isa's because I know you check it everyday). Or maybe the top 3?
VeganYumYum, Artichoke Zine, Vanilla Sugar.

24. Favorite vegan candy/chocolate?
Organica "White Chocolate" Bar.

25. Most extravagant food item purchased lately?
I bought a freshly made vegan chelsea bun yesterday, because I'd forgotten to have lunch before work. It was lovely!

26. Ingredients you are scared to work with?
Packaged 'egg replacement' things.
